Want to see first-hand how some amazing machines are manufactured?

Sign up for the 47th National Stearman Fly-in’s tour of the John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, IL, and the company’s corporate aviation hangar at the Quad City International Airport (KMLI) on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.

The plant, at 1100 13th Ave., employs about 3,000 persons, and manufactures combines and front-end equipment. World-wide, Deere has a workforce of some 67,000.

Lisa Woldow, a member of the Fly-In’s board of directors, said the tour will start at 10 a.m. and last about 90 minutes.

Fly-In participants interested in the tour should send an e-mail to Woldow at Lrwoldow@gmail.com by Aug. 15 to reserve a place. “Please specify your name, the number of persons in your party, and your phone number,” she said, “to make sure we have adequate vehicles scheduled and so we can contact you if necessary.”

“We will publish departure and pick-up times as we get closer to the date,” Woldow said.

Woldow said that “We are in talks with the Quad City International Airport to arrange procedures and parking” for Fly-In participants who want to fly to Moline.

Here are other tour requirements:

>> All participants must be at least 13 years old. Minors (13-17) must be accompanied by an adult.

>> No video recording or photography is permitted.

>> No sandals or open-toed shoes are allowed.

Tours are conducted by retired employees. The experience receives 84 percent “excellent” reviews on the TripAdvisor web site.
