The National Stearman Fly-In’s annual aerobatic contest returns this year to Gen-Air Park, 3G8, in Geneseo, IL.
The competition is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, says Donivan Godsil, contest chairman and a member of the Fly-In’s Board of Directors.
In 2015 and 2016, the contest was scheduled at Galesburg Municipal Airport.
“We have been asked to ‘show our stuff’ at the lovely Gen-Air Park,” Godsil says. “This is a perfect venue if you’ve never participated in the contest before.
“The box is based on a standard primary and sportsman IAC contest size, and is open to all Stearman pilots,” Godsil says. “This is a fun event geared for the amateur.”
The contest briefing will start at 1:30 p.m. in Gen-Air Park’s pilot lounge, and the contest will begin at 2 p.m.
Prior to the contest, Fly-In participants are invited to Geneseo for a lunch served at the airport.
Judges are needed for the contest, Godsil says. “If you have recently won one of the last few aerobatic contests, we would love to have you be a judge,” he says.
